Aneta Weinrach’s Holocaust survival story is one of harrowing loss, resilience, and renewal. In this powerful short documentary, Aneta recounts her experience of hiding in a loft with two babies — one of whom tragically died after being smothered to keep them all from being discovered.
She describes the cruelty of Nazi occupation, including the desecration of Jewish cemeteries where gravestones were used to pave streets. Liberated in Romania, Aneta was reunited with her father, who had lost half his body weight during the war.
After the Holocaust, she emigrated to Palestine, witnessed the declaration of the State of Israel, and later rebuilt her life in Australia with her husband Joseph. Together, they raised three children and created a life filled with dignity, love, and meaning. Aneta’s story is a moving testament to survival, memory, and the strength to begin again.
Produced for the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies Holocaust Remembrance event by AD Media.
Directed and produced by Sarita Gold.
